Jack Garrity; Obituary, Death: It is with great sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of Jack Garrity, a cherished and respected member of the Metairie, Louisiana community. Jack’s unexpected death has left a tremendous void in the lives of his family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him. His passing has sparked an outpouring of grief, as his warmth, kindness, and positive spirit will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Born and raised in New Orleans, Jack was a proud Louisianan with a deep love for his hometown and the surrounding areas. A lifelong resident of Metairie, he made an indelible mark on everyone he encountered, whether through his work, his passions, or simply through his unwavering kindness and generosity. Known for his trademark smile and infectious laugh, Jack had an ability to make anyone feel at ease, no matter the situation.
Jack’s life was defined by his unwavering dedication to his family and community. He was a loving husband to his beloved wife, Mary, and a devoted father to his children, Sarah and Michael. Family was the cornerstone of Jack’s life, and he took great pride in supporting and nurturing his loved ones, always going above and beyond to make sure they were well cared for. He cherished his role as a father, guiding his children with patience, wisdom, and humor.
In addition to his family, Jack was deeply committed to the greater Metairie community. Over the years, he built lasting relationships through his work and involvement in various local organizations. Jack was a familiar face at neighborhood events and served as a pillar of support for friends and neighbors alike. He believed in the importance of building connections and fostering a sense of togetherness, qualities that endeared him to so many.
His absence will be profoundly felt by those who had the privilege of working alongside him, volunteering with him, or simply sharing a moment in his company. Jack’s professional career was marked by his dedication, integrity, and hard work. Outside of his work and family life, Jack was an avid sports fan, with a particular fondness for New Orleans’ own Saints and Pelicans. He enjoyed attending games with friends and family, and his passion for the teams was infectious. His love for the city of New Orleans extended to its vibrant culture and rich history, and he was always eager to share his knowledge and appreciation for the region with others.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, Sarah and Michael; his siblings, Robert, Susan, and Carol; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who considered him family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Eleanor Garrity, and his beloved sister, Janet.
A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Metairie on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM, with a reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the New Orleans Community Outreach Center, an organization near and dear to Jack’s heart.
Jack’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has reached out with love and support during this difficult time. While Jack may no longer walk among us, his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
